May is a big month for CDCP eligible adults needing affordable dental care. It is the month that adults between 18 to 64 years old are phased into the program.
May 15: Those between 18 and 34 years old may apply
May 29: Those between 34 and 54 years old may apply

Those who already have coverage under the plan must renew coverage to be eligible for dental services in the 2025 to 2026 coverage period.

Eligible Canadian residents can obtain many dental services under the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP). The CDCP was established to make dental care more affordable for those who otherwise couldn’t pay for basic dental health care.
The next phase of the plan is now open for specific demographic populations to participate in the current coverage period. The current coverage period ends June 30, 2025, so it’s best to enroll now, if eligible.
Eligible groups that can enroll before May 1 include:
- Senior citizens who are 65 and older
- Children under 18 years old
- Disabled adults who have a valid federal Disability Tax Credit certificate for 2023

You have no access to dental insurance meaning it is not available through work or another government program.
You and your spouse or common-law partner have filed Canadian tax returns for 2023.
The adjusted family net income for your household is less than $90,000.
You are a Canadian resident.
How To Apply
- Those who currently don’t have CDCP coverage can apply online by going here. Be aware that applications are opening in phases so check the population group you fall into before applying.
- Only submit one application to include everyone in your household who qualifies.
- Those who obtained CDCP coverage last year need to renew it to keep the coverage for the new period. You can do that here. Renewals must occur before June 1 to avoid a lapse in coverage.
Start Dates and Providers
CDCP does not immediately cover dental care. Your benefit start date begins after your application is received and your enrollment is completed by Sun Life, which manages the plan.
You will need to book oral health care appointments on or after the start benefit date. You will need to find your CDCP benefit start date. Sun Life will send you a welcome package with your member card. Your benefit start date will be on your welcome letter.
Also, be aware that not every oral health care provider included the CDCP as an option. You will need to confirm your provider accepts the plan before you agree to oral health care services.
