How Do I Keep My Invisalign® Aligners Clean?

How Do I Keep My Invisalign® Aligners Clean?

One of the biggest advantages of the Invisalign® system when compared to metal braces is the ease with which Invisalign® aligners can remain in good condition. Unlike traditional braces, which require patients brush and floss between wires and brackets, Invisalign® aligners can be extremely low maintenance. These clear, thermoplastic aligners are meant to be removed when eating and drinking, eliminating the tediousness of removing food particles stuck to metal wiring. To keep aligners sterile, Invisalign® patients need only rinse their aligners under lukewarm water while gently brushing the plastic with a soft-bristled toothbrush. The process of cleaning your teeth and gums is exactly the same—simply brush and floss twice daily!

Our Mississauga cosmetic dentists also recommend brushing your teeth before wearing Invisalign® aligners to prevent accidental staining, especially after eating pasta sauce, curries, blueberries, licorice, and other foods likely to discolor the clear plastic. You can also help ensure your aligners remain as pristine as possible by removing them before drinking dark or high-sugar beverages, such as tea, juice, coffee, wine, and alcohol. Other than practicing routine oral hygiene, Invisalign® aligners do not require timely maintenance to stay in good condition.

Invisalign® can be a simple, comfortable, and effective way to straighten your teeth. If you have any questions about the Invisalign® process, don’t hesitate to contact Dr. Arun Narang & Associates for a consultation.
