Implant-Supported Dentures

Having a smile you’re uncomfortable showing can have a significant effect on your quality of life. Additionally, if you’re missing teeth, you may have difficulty eating and speaking. What are implant-supported dentures?

Implant-anchored dentures are dental appliances that are secured into place with dental implants. Essentially a cross between a denture and a full set of dental implants, implant dentures can provide the advantages of both treatments with often fewer drawbacks of either. Implant dentures can restore a quadrant of missing teeth on the upper or lower arch, or both, or they can replace all missing teeth on an arch. The right technique for you will depend on your individual anatomic characteristics and desired outcome. Our extensively trained Mississauga dentists are dedicated to providing exceptional care, and they will assist in you in finding the ideal method for your needs.

What are the pros and cons of implant dentures?

If you have missing teeth, implant-anchored dentures can provide a number of benefits over traditional dentures, including:

  • Increased stability
  • Greater comfort
  • No pastes or adhesives needed
  • Natural-looking and long-lasting results
  • Improved jawbone preservation
  • Easier maintenance

You may also notice that you can more comfortably eat a wider variety of foods than with traditional conventional dentures. Additionally, implant dentures typically cost less than one-for-one replacement of missing natural teeth with dental implants.

Implant-Supported Dentures FAQ

To best meet our patients’ array of individual needs, we offer a selection of benefits implant-supported denture options. During your initial consultation, Dr. Arun Narang will evaluate your oral structures, discuss your goals and concerns, and develop a customized treatment plan using one or more of the techniques below:

All-on-4™ is an innovative restorative method that uses four dental implants to secure a removable denture that replaces all missing teeth on the upper arch, lower arch, or both. The location of the four dental implants is critical to achieving a result that is both stable and comfortable, and our experienced team can identify the ideal approach for your needs. All-on-4™ typically requires less jawbone to be successful; therefore, if you are not a candidate for a full set of dental implants, you may still a good candidate for this procedure.

In some cases, more than four dental implants will be needed to provide the necessary support for the optimal outcome. In that situation the procedure is called All-on-6. Patients with inadequate jawbone density for All-on-4™ may be able to have six implants instead and still obtain the desired long term result. We will discuss all possible options with you during your initial consultation.
Another technique that may be effective is commonly known as “snap-on” dentures. In this procedure, mini implants are placed to anchor the denture. This dental appliance does not have a palatal plate like other types of dentures do, which many patients find more comfortable to wear. The removable denture can then snap into place on the mini implants, providing a secure foundation to eat, speak, and enjoy life as normal.
Detailed planning is an essential part of a successful outcome. When you arrive for your consultation, one of our skilled dentists will perform a thorough evaluation of your oral structures, speak with you about your goals, and listen attentively to your concerns. He or she will then develop a tailored treatment plan with these factors in mind. The dental implant posts are comprised of titanium, and they will be placed by Dr. Narang in specific locations within your jaw, as determined by your evaluation and imaging tests. Over time, the posts should integrate with the jawbone to become a permanent part of your mouth. Once healed, the denture will be affixed to the implants and reviewed for comfort and fit.
